John Goodman Amphitheatre Design
Springfield, MO
The John Goodman Amphitheatre project included design and construction of a new, permanent performance pavilion at Missouri State University that hosts the acclaimed Tent Theatre as well as other performance productions and events throughout the academic year. The 12,000-sf. outdoor pavilion, located in the central quad, uses an open-air weather-tight ceiling design with a main performance stage and sloped theater seating. The theatre is connected to Craig Hall with a new covered walkway and is weather-tight during productions. The project includes production-level theatre audiovisual and lighting system design and a passive/hybrid ventilation system. Faith Group provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low voltage design and construction administration for the project.
One of the project challenges was having this project start and stop due to the pandemic, and then later continue work remotely. This increased the need for Faith Group to be extremely dedicated to coordinating with all stakeholders, construction partners, and the Owner. We worked with the contractor to expedite review and approval of equipment submittals to facilitate their timely delivery to overcome pandemic-related supply chain challenges.
“This new arts park and permanent amphitheater are much welcome additions to our historic Tent Theatre. Our campus and larger community will have a vibrant and comfortable space to enjoy not only Tent Theatre and other productions, but also many special events for years to come.” – Missouri State President Clif Smart, KY3, April 8, 2021
